Hands up if you’ve been by the Quonset huts off of 17th, behind Trader Joe’s?
While there, you may have caught a glimpse of Urbanism Furniture: a giant warehouse, neighboring the huts, and full of unique, beautiful furniture.
The motto at Urbanism is “short hours, sweet prices” and it’s worked well for them – going on 25 years, now. Owner Stephanie Lamons originally started the business when her two boys were still toddlers. She hired a few ‘mom friends’ to work with her, and only kept the shop open from 10-2pm, while the kids were in school.
Today, the hours have changed – 10-5pm, most days – but the business model remains the same. Stephanie and her team find great deals on affordable, unusual furniture, and bring them to the warehouse to sell.
She doesn’t advertise or rely on traditional marketing methods; just word of mouth and repeat customers, grassroots style.

“We are not climate-controlled and it’s a bit dusty. We leak when it rains and you may need to step around a few boxes to make your way through the shop,” says Stephanie. “Our hours are short and so are our frills!”
While you won’t find plush carpeting or A/C at Urbanism, you also won’t find those stereotypical furniture-store sales people. Every time I shop there, the sales team has been truly helpful, without pressure or assumption.
According to Stephanie, that’s no accident. She empowers her staff, allowing them to have their own authority and responsibility for their sales. So whether you come in searching for the perfect dining room set, a new couch for the family room, or just a quirky end table to complete your living room, you’re likely to find it at Urbanism.

And if you’re looking for a particular piece or design, there’s more than what’s on the floor. The team has mountains of catalogs they can pull from, depending on your needs.
Urbanism also offers what they call a “warehouse to you service” if you need some help with design. Their onsite interior designer will come to your home and help you plan out your space, for a totally affordable fee of just $95 per room.
So if you don’t mind an unconventional shopping experience, there are definitely stylish deals to be had. All design aesthetics are represented here – from mid-century modern, to beach chic, to industrial and contemporary, too.
Aside from the furniture, the Urbanism warehouse is also filled with eclectic details, like interesting wall hangings and vibrant throw pillows.

So the next time your home is in need of an affordable furniture fix, check out the warehouse that’s a little rusty and dusty, but totally deal-worthy.
“If you haven’t ever been here,” says Stephanie, “We’ve been missing you for 24 years!” ♥
