Note: This post is part of an ongoing blog series called #costamesa365 where the author is striving to shop only* in her city of Costa Mesa, for a year.
This post is really about Love Costa Mesa Day 2019, coming May 18th to our fair city. (More info on this awesome, citywide event, below.)
But first, I have to come clean about a doh! mistake on my quest for #costamesa365.
So, I was planning to meet up with Sharon Hurd for coffee. (She wanted to talk to me about Love Costa Mesa Day and what they had planned.)
Since we are both Westsiders, I suggested Common Room Roasters just down the street from our houses.
She was stoked. (Having never been and wanting to check it out.)
I was stoked. (CRR has great coffee and a beautiful, clean, interior vibe.)
Plus, #costamesa365 strong, baby!
…
Except it turns out, dear readers, CRR is not actually in Costa Mesa – doh!
I go to link to their website and what’s in the home page address? Newport!
Common Room Roasters is juuuust south of the city boundary in that weird, Bermuda-Triangle chunk of the Westside that is technically Newport Beach, but really just feels like more Costa Mesa.
While I may have parked my car in CM (on 16th and Monrovia near RVCA) – walking that 1/2 block south to the coffee shop? All Newport.
Anyway, mistake admitted. So, back to Love Costa Mesa Day:
Sharon explained to me, over coffee (in Newport Beach, apparently,) that Love Costa Mesa Day is a big, community-driven Saturday full of volunteering, painting, fixing, cleaning up – and otherwise lavishing lots of grassroots love – all over Costa Mesa!
Last year was the first year they did it. This year they are trying to get even more people and projects on the schedule.
So if you are down to paint, clean, fix, help and join in on a big day of Costa Mesa community love, mark your calendar for Saturday, May 18, 2019.
You can also join the I Heart Costa Mesa Facebook Group and I will post the volunteer details once Sharon sends them to me.
More importantly, if you have a neighbor, school, street, business or property that could use some elbow grease, love and support from your neighbors, add your project to the list, here.
Ahhh. I just adore all cool things Costa Mesans dream up to help our city…
… even when I’m hearing about them in Newport. ♥

*We will always start by shopping / looking in Costa Mesa, first. But if we really need something and an alternative is nowhere to be found in Costa Mesa, we’ll stray. Also, as parents, we’ve decided that certain kid-related things (mainly educational) will need to remain baked in.
